I cringed when Elon Musk revealed his Asperger's diagnosis on Saturday Night Live. Thankfully, the autism spectrum is broad enough for me to disavow all but a small amount of chromosomal overlap with “The Dogefather”. For those of you who are unaware of the asinine things that Elon has said and done, Vox has compiled a nice list. His affirming that DOGE is a hustle should certainly be added to it.
For the record, Elon Musk is NOT the first autistic person to host SNL. That honor belongs to Dan Aykroyd who hosted the show in 2003. Granted that Aykroyd didn't speak publicly about his diagnosis until 2013, but Musk's claim to be show's first host with Asperger Syndrome, or "at least, the first person to admit it," isn't true.
Additionally, in 2013 the diagnosis of “Asperger's Syndrome” was removed from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition (DSM-5) and folded under Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). My original diagnosis was Asperger's Syndrome, but I no longer refer to myself as such, not because it was taken out of the DSM, but because it's an unscientific diagnosis named after a Nazi sympathizer.
In light of Musk's “revelation”, I feel it is very important to (once again) emphasize that persons on the autism spectrum are NOT a monolithic group. I would never consider Elon to be a "spectrum sibling." At best, I'd consider him to be a "spectrum second cousin" ... twice removed. 😝
On a related note, Dogecoin's nosedive following Musk's SNL show gives credence to several statements that Bhagamshi Kannegundla made on my show. If you haven't watched that episode, please do so. Bhagamshi and I are planning to do a follow-up episode, and one of the topics we will definitely cover is the dangerous ability of certain individuals to single-handedly manipulate markets.
If you didn't invest in Doge or sold early, I guess you Doge-d a bullet. 😁 Yes, I recently discovered that cryptocurrency is a gold mine for puns. Sorry... “digital gold” mine. 😝
New episode of Think Weiss drops tomorrow. If you've been enjoying what you've read, seen, or heard, I hope you'll buy me a coffee.
